Songbird serenades GenSan

On her second visit to General Santos City since the 1980s, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid embarked on a remarkable journey by staging a fans’ day for her Mindanaoan supporters this September.

The event, which already counts as her 10th stop in a nationwide tour, was held in celebration of the city’s charter day and the weeklong Tuna Festival.

Timeless hits such as “Sana Maulit Muli,” “On the Wings of Love,” “Hinahanap-hanap Kita, Pangako,” and “Kailangan Kita” were part of Regine’s repertoire during a mini-concert at the events and convention center of the KCC Mall of GenSan in front of the local audience estimated at 6,000.

In an interview prior to the show, Regine admitted she misses singing her original songs.

“I miss singing them. I recorded them and I remember liking them before. And since I haven’t been really doing concerts a lot, gusto ko kapag nagre-regional ako, ‘yun ang binabalikan namin, ‘yung mga old songs ko simply because I enjoy them.

And kasi ang dami ko ring areglo so sayang naman if I don’t use them,” she shared.

Widely recognized for her versatility as a performer, Regine did not limit herself to singing her signature repertoire of soaring hit songs, she also endeared the crowd by belting out a medley of some of Adele’s famous tracks like “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You,” and “Turning Tables.”

Regine’s fans in GenSan were happy to find out that they will see more of their idol in Bet ng Bayan, a talent reality show on GMA Network she is set to host together with Alden Richards in October.

“It’s time to look for another set of superstars again. Since Bet ng Bayan is a nationwide search, each region will have a representative so it’s pretty much exciting,” she concluded.
