1 dead, 2 hurt in NBI operation


A man allegedly involved in illegal drugs was killed while his two companions were wounded in a shootout with elements of the National Bureau of Investigation on Sunday night in Pasay City. Declared dead on arrival at San Juan de Dios Hospital was Dario Cuenca, 49, while his companions Bryan Mardelo, 41, and Jeoffrey Magaspac, 48, were still receiving treatment in the same hospital. The encounter took place at 8 p.m. at the corner of Marina Boulevard and Seaside Boulevard, of SM Mall of Asia compound. Cuenca was on board a Hyundai Accent car, with plate number AAV-8780, when his group engaged the NBI anti-illegal drugs agents in a firefight. Recovered from the site were an undetermined amount of shabu, a .45 caliber pistol, ammunitions, and fake identification cards.
