Police are now hunting an illegal drag race organizer after one person was killed and six others were injured when a losing group of car racers shot the victims at dawn Tuesday on Mindanao Avenue Extension in Barangay Greater Lagro Quezon City.
Shot dead was 22-year-old Jackie Rajaroja, reportedly a hairstylist from Jordan Plain Subdivision in Barangay Santa Monica, Novaliches, Quezon City. He was declared dead at Commonwealth Medical Center from bullet wounds in his chest and different parts of his body.
Six others were injured by stray bullets —Carl Webb, 38, of Maligaya Park Subd., Brgy. Pasong Putik, Quezon City; Michael Ray Tolentino, 33, of Barangay Holy Spirit, also in that city; Jeffrey Viray, 32; Mico Caguindagan, 19; Nico Tanchavez, 28, all from Novaliches, and Joel Salvador, 22, of Camarin, Caloocan City.
The unidentified suspects reportedly from Cavite fled after the shooting.
Police Officer 2 Jaime Samson of the Quezon City Police District Fairview Police Station 5 said the incident happened around 4 a.m. near Aberdeen Street in Greater Lagro when the losing Cavite drag racing group fired their guns at the victims for refusing to run another race, which involved a bet of P40,000.
Police found 45 empty shells of bullets from various guns in the area.
Two vehicles were also riddled with bullets.
