One person was killed in a fire and two were injured by stray bullets even as authorities started clamping down on the unauthorized firing of guns and the sale and use of illegal and banned firecrackers, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Wednesday.
PNP spokesman, Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor said 11 incidents have been reported since the clampdown, officially known as “Iwas Paputok – Iwas Disgrasya,” started on December 16.
Mayor said target of the clamp down was the sale and use of illegal and banned firecrackers and indiscriminate firing of firearms, which in the past has claimed the lives of innocent people.
Mayor said six of the incidents involved the illegal use or sale of banned firecrackers, two involved stray bullets, two fires due to firecrackers and one illegal discharge of firearm.
“The illegal discharge of firearm is considered as a criminal offense and chances are, your firearms license will be revoked by the PNP,” Mayor said.
