FIVE policemen, three governor’s staff and two boatmen were rescued after the motorboat they rode capsized because of heavy waves early Friday morning off the waters of Surigao del Sur province, police reports said on Saturday.
Reports said that the incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. Friday in the waters between Dacu Island and General Luna town in the said province.
Five policemen and three staffers of Gov. Sol Matugas boarded a motorboat with two crewmembers and were on their way to Dacu Island as advance party for an education caravan.
But a sudden storm surge and big waves hit the boat for several minutes causing it to capsize, reports said.
A passing civilian-owned pump boat and responding personnel of General Luna Municipal Police Station on a speedboat rescued the boat passengers.
