SOME 1,000 policemen from the Manila Police District (MP) were deployed in Manila’s university belt area to secure students from petty criminals.
MPD spokesperson Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said policemen in plainclothes were also sent out to provide covert assistance.
Margarejo said that there are 343 schools in Manila alone. Of this number, 56 are colleges and universities.
He said the MPD is implementing its four-phase security preparation around schools under its jurisdiction.
The first phase involves the general safety of students through dialogues with school officials regarding their security programs, including the strict implementation of the “No ID, No Entry”.
The second phase involves restoring and maintaining peace and order around schools while the third phase is crime prevention.
