THE number of drug suspects killed in intensified police operations since July 1, 2016 has reached 1,046, the Philippine National Police said Thursday.
Figure from the National Operation Center in Camp Crame showed that 15,681 drug suspects were arrested
while 691,483 drug users and pushers surrendered to the police.
Under Oplan Tokhang, police officers knocked on 41,139 houses.
The PNP said earlier this week that it was investigating the deaths of 1,686 drug suspects.
PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Dionardo Carlos told reporters in Camp Crame that 281 cases have been filed and 176 of these are considered solved because the suspects have been arrested.
The PNP has been heavily criticized for its tough and deadly crackdown on drugs that spawned vigilante killings.
The international community led by the United Nations has raised concern on the huge number of persons killed in the Duterte administration’s tough war against illegal drugs.
