11 CAAP workers sacked over terminal fee scam

The country’s aviation regulator began cleaning its rank and file of those involved in scams, and ordered the dismissal of 11 contractual personnel at Kalibo International Airport (KIA) for allegedly pocketing cash by issuing used terminal fee tickets to passengers. The domestic terminal fee in KIA costs P200 for local travelers, and P750 for international travelers. CAAP Director General William K. Hotchkiss 3rd also directed CAAP deputy director general Rodante Joya, concurrent head of CAAP’s Security and Intelligence Services (CIS), to conduct an investigation on the possibility that the workers might have been the same group involved in the modus operandi of “recycling” terminal fee tickets that deprived a substantial amount of earnings from the KIA. A CAAP employee, suspected of being be involved in the scams, has been suspended pending investigation.
