A POLICE seaborne patrol in Ragay town, Camarines Sur province arrested on Monday at least 11 people for illegal fishing. Provincial Police Director Primo Golingay said the suspects were caught using ‘buli-buli,’ a fishing gear that destroys coral reefs, sea grass bed and other fishery and marine life habitat. Golingay identified the 11 as Eric Azun, 46; Reynaldo Domer, 49; Neil Geron, 39; Erwin Calanok, 26; Jerson Buere, 23; Marvin Lamiga, 24; Dario Donsillo, 50; Marvin Latoga, 35; Jomel Cristo Lobredo, 24; Panio Inrera, 62; and Natano Alberto, 44. Seized from them were one fishing boat, a pair of stainless ring, a set of fish net, and several other fishing implements. They are detained at the Ragay Municipal Police Station pending the filing of a complaint for violating Republic Act 8550 or The Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.
