11 sex trade victims in Surigao rescued

CRIMINAL Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) operatives on Friday rescued 11 alleged victims of sex trade and arrested one female pimp during an operation in a remote village in Surigao del Norte.

Camp Crame reports said Supt. Glen Silvio, chief of the 13th Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), led the operation leading to the rescue to 11 women found inside M/V Jin li, a Chinese vessel loading mineral ores, docked at a port in Brgy. Cagdiano in Claver town.

CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong, quoting reports, identified the arrested pimp as Jessa Leila Montecalbo alias Andrea Pineda who was caught delivering the women in different areas of the Caraga region and nearby provinces.

Magalong said another suspect who was supposed to bring the women to the officers and crew of the Chinese vessel, eluded arrest.

The victims—identified as Josephine Mabunga, Marilyn Emena, Cristy Gonzales Bernal, Cecil Go, Janeth Cantapao, Clarence Bajad, Licah Escol, Aileen Odtojan, Maria Fatima Canoy, Mary Grace de Lima Castro and Rhea Plasadas – were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development for counselling.

Magalong said the arrested suspect will remain in police custody while appropriate charges are being readied against her.
