TWO persons were killed while six others were injured in an accident involving 11 vehicles on Thursday evening on the northbound lane of C5 Highway in Barangay Pinagsama, Taguig City.
Taguig police traffic investigator PO3 Rodelo Lopango said the two fatalities were both passengers of public utility jeepney (PWV 123) that was directly hit by a wayward Isuzu Truck (RMT-872) driven by Ronaldo Padilla, 44, of Apalit, Floridablanca, Pampanga province.
He identified one of the fatalities as Paul Pajanto, 27, resident of ISG Central Pinagsama, Taguig City, who was declared dead on arrival at Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital due to serious injuries in his head and body. He was reportedly sitting at the rear portion of the passenger jeepney when hit by the truck.
Six other passengers who all sustained minor injuries were rushed to Taguig-Pateros District Hospital by responding Taguig City Rescue Team.
Lopango said the smashup occurred at the northbound lane of C-5 Road in Barangay Pinagsama Phase 2 in Taguig, and involved three jeeps, three trucks and four private vehicles.
The accident started when the Isuzu truck driven by Padilla hit the passenger jeepney driven by Dario Aquino, 32, of Gladiola Street, Makati City.
Due to the strong impact, an unidentified passenger wearing brown short pants and red t-shirt and was riding at standing position at the back of the jeepney fell to the concrete pavement and was ran over by the rear portion of the truck that resulted to his instantaneous death.
Police arrested Padilla and Rafael Tamayo, a driver of a 14-wheeler truck, were taken into custody even as police look into what led to the smashup.
It learned that the strong impact pushed the jeepney forward and collided towards the rear portion another jeepney (PYX 149).
