14 gold ‘poachers’ arrested

Camp Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet: A spate of theft incident reports in the mining area has prompted the Benguet Police Office to advise mining firms to beef up their security forces. Provincial Police Director Rodolfo Azurin said at least 14 people were arrested over the week and released only after they ‘signed a promissory note’ with the firms. It was alleged that the suspects were caught in the act of carrying gold ores. But when asked for their identification papers, the men were not reportedly able to present any. At least eight sacks of gold ores weighing 310 kilos were confiscated from the ‘poachers.’
