FOURTEEN Filipino workers died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia that left several others injured.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday said there was “unofficial” report from the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh that at least 14 Filipinos perished in the accident that happened at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Hofuf, Al-Hassa in the oil-rich kingdom’s eastern region.
There were 26 Filipinos–mostly electricians–in the coaster.
Citing reports from the embassy in Riyadh, Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose that
the human resources of the company the Filipinos were working for said “that a number of
Filipino workers rode a coaster last night from work site to accommodation [and]got into a traffic accident.”
The fatalities were working for Saudi Arabia Kentzm, a contracting and engineering company.
Officials of the company said personnel have been sent to the site of the accident and to the hospital where the other victims were taken and are finalizing a report that will be submitted to the Philippine Embassy.
