AT LEAST thirty-six police personnel from the Northern Mindanao Regional Police Office tested positive for illegal drug use and 15 of them have been dismissed, a police official said on Saturday.
Regional police information officer, Supt. Gervacio Balmaceda Jr., said that the 36 police officers were found positive for drugs following a series of drug tests conducted last year and early this year.
“The random drug tests were conducted to identify some personnel who are into drugs,” Balmaceda said.
The police official said the 15 dismissed were given ten days to file a motion for consideration or appeal their case.
Balmaceda said two of those found positive are commissioned officers and non-uniformed personnel.
Balmaceda said that some policemen were found positive of using illegal drugs while the others have been arrested during raids of suspected drug dens.
He added that 18 other policemen in Northern Mindanao are facing summary dismissal proceedings involving illegal drug cases.
“The procedure is part of the internal cleansing program of the Northern Mindanao Regional Police Office and the relentless campaign against illegal drugs of the PNP, “ Balmaceda said.
Dismissed police officers forfeit all benefits, including separation pay.
During a visit here last week, PNP Director Ricardo Marquez ordered the dismissal of all policemen found involved and engaged in illegal drug trafficking.
