• 15,000 runners to honor SAF 44

MORE than 15,000 runners will honor the 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) who were killed while on an anti-terrorism assignment in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, in 2015.

This year’s Condura Skyway Marathon will benefit children of the fallen soldiers through the funding of Help Educate and Rear Orphans (HERO) Foundation, according to Raul Patrick Concepcion, vice president for service of Condura Inc.

An acclaimed annual marathon in the country, the organizers prepared 6K, 10K, 21K and 42K runs.

The race with a unique course on the elevated highway will start and finish at Filinvest City in Alabang, Muntinlupa City (Metro Manila).

Names and photos of the SAF 44 will be lined up in the first 4.4 kilometers of the course.
Apart from the 15,000 individuals who registered online, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has provided 20 soldiers to participate as runners.

Other units of the AFP will also be engaged to provide security during the conduct of the event.

The Philippine Navy Drum and Bugle Corps, Philippine Air Force Marching Band and Philippine Army Combo will be present to provide entertainment.

The traffic bureau announced the closure of Skyway, both lanes from Buendia off-ramp to Filinvest City, from 8 p.m. of February 6 until the morning of February 7.
