BATANGAS: At least 16 people were injured when a wayward truck collided with four other vehicles along the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (Star) Tollway in San Jose town early Sunday morning.
Carlito America, Star tollway security and traffic supervisor, said Alberto Orlin, the driver of the car carrier truck, was cruising along the tollway when he lost control of the truck’s steering wheel upon reaching Barangay Lapu-Lapu 2 in San Jose town at around 5:00 a.m.
Orlin’s truck subsequently rammed an incoming passenger-type cargo jeep (DSR-276) on the opposite lane. This caused a multiple-vehicle collision after three tailing buses collided with the jeep.
The buses, where most of the injured were boarded, include two Dimple Star buses (TYM-900 and TYG-362) and a Ceres Bus (UVB-120).
Personnel of the Red Cross, Star tollway, and Philippine National Police immediately rushed the victims to Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City for treatment.
America said most of the victims sustained minor head and body injuries except Orlin, who suffered major injuries.
Orlin could face cases of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to properties.
