17 Vietnamese poachers in West PH Sea held


THE Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL) arrested 17 Vietnamese on board three fishing vessels on Thursday for allegedly poaching off the Ilocos Sur waters in the West Philippine Sea.

Navy Commander Ronnie Paba Naval Task Force Group chief, said the three fishing vessels with 17 crewmen were spotted at 21 nautical miles west of Dile Point, Vigan City. They were brought to the Fort Salomague, Cabugao town in Ilocos Sur for further investigation.

The NFNL identified the Vietnamese crew as Tran Huu Trung, Bui Van Liem, Le Tien, Bui Van Luom, Huynh Hgoe Tuan, Le Than Trung, Tran Hoang Kim, Va An, Phan Haui Tuy, Nguger Van Phoung, Ngryan Dy Fuong, Vo Thien, Dink Thien Son, Nguyen Gio, Hyunh Thanh Thang, Do Thenh Lai and Tran Huu Phuc.

According to Paba, they have coordinated with concerned government agencies for the temporary custody of the arrested fishermen while the case is being investigated.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources also conducting an inventory on the water resources loaded in the captured vessels while the Bureau of Immigration office in Ilocos Sur has informed the officials of the Vietnamese embassy on the arrest of its citizens.
