18 missing in bus crash ‘probably dead’: German police

BERLIN: Eighteen people unaccounted for after Monday’s bus crash in southern Germany are believed to have died in the flames that engulfed the vehicle, said police. The bus was carrying 48 passengers and had two drivers when it rammed into the trailer in a traffic jam on the motorway A9 close to the Bavarian town of Stammbach. The impact immediately sent the bus up in flames. In a statement, police said that thirty passengers were taken to hospitals, some with serious injuries. “The others are believed to have died in the burning tour bus.” Police spokeswoman Anne Hoefer said “the bus is completely gutted,” and added that “it is completely possible that some people did not make it out of the bus.”
