In a bid to improve budget allocations in the justice system, the Supreme Court has set the first judiciary budget conference that will be attended by all the justices of the high court, the Court of Appeals, the Sandiganbayan, the Court of Tax Appeals and the lower courts.
Administrative Circular 05-2014 signed by Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Aranal-Sereno states that the conference kicks off on Thursday and will last until Saturday in Tagaytay City.
The budget conference aims to rationalize the allocations in the budget and finances of the judiciary, including those to several offices from the high court down.
At present the Judiciary receives less than one percent of the national budget.
Sereno has authorized the attendance of the justices, judges and even court personnel to the said event.
The chief justice is sending five of her staff led by lawyer Vicente Dante Adan, along with the Fiscal Management and Budget Office.
The office of the Court Administrator and the Philippine Judicial Academy shall also be present.
Presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr. of the CA, Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang and CTA Presiding Justice Roman del Rosario are also mandated to attend.
Sereno warned that “the participating judges should see to it that their respective court calendars are properly managed and the parties notified in advance of any cancelled hearing.”
