2 arrested for extort try on Malaysian man


ANTI-FRAUD authorities have arrested on early dawn on Sunday two suspects during an entrapment operation in Pasay City after trying to extort money from a Malaysian national, a police official said on Monday. The head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Anti-Fraud and Commercial Crimes Unit, Supt. Bowen Joey Masauding identified the suspect as Emmanuel Salvador and Phil Balicuat. The entrapment operation was made upon the request of a certain Wei Jie Yap, a Malaysian man. Seized from Balicuat were P5, 000 cash and a cellphone believed to have been used in transacting with the victim. The CIDG official said that charges of violation of Revised Penal Code Article 293 (Robbery Extortion) and Article 177 (Usurpation of authority) are being readied for filing against the suspects.
