2 BENGUET MINERS SUCCUMB TO GAS POISONING

CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet: Two pocket miners died of gas poisoning in the mining town of Itogon in the afternoon of June 17. Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong, regional director of Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-Cor) identified the victims as Simeon Wakit Dulawan, 36 and Roy Kilas, 23. Both are stay-in miners at the private mines of Nagawa Bugayong Mine Portal, Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet. According to reports, the victims with two companions entered the tunnel and inside at around 1:45 p.m., the victim’s companions sensed that gas accumulated in the area prompting them to go out and seek for assistance. Immediately, joint personnel of Itogon MPS, BFP, Philex Mining Corp, and village officials responded and conducted retrieval operations. At about 8:55 p.m. of same date, the group was able to retrieve the lifeless bodies of the victims and brought them to Sitio Nagawa, Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet.
