TWO suspected carjackers were killed in an encounter with the police in Binangonan, Rizal province on Tuesday morning.
Rizal Provincial Police director, Senior Supt. Adriano Enong Jr., identified the slain suspects as Ronald Marcos, alleged leader of Marcos carnapping group operating in Metro Manila and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), and his right-hand man identified only as “Allan.”
Enong said the two suspects were killed in a shootout with Binangonan police at about 6:10 a.m., along Manila East Road in Barangay Batingan, Binangonan town.
He said a police checkpoint was set up after the Binangonan police received information that a carnapped vehicle will pass in the area between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.
Between the said hours, the stolen vehicle was flagged down at the checkpoint, but the suspects forced through and engaged authorities in a gun battle.
Recovered from the suspects were a Mitsubushi L-300 FB van, a .45-caliber pistol, a .38-caliber revolver, and ammunition.
Police said the suspects are also involved in the illegal drug trade.
