TWO rookie policemen and seven others were arrested for allegedly abducting four persons last June 21 in Quezon City (Metro Manila).
Chief Supt. Joel Pagdilao, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director, identified the two policemen as Police Officer 1 Adrian Coso Momo, 29; and PO1 Puut Bagtong Piya, 37.
Both are being held at the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City (Metro Manila).
It was not immediately known to which police unit they belong.
The seven other suspects were identified as Joseph Jerome Rocha, 37; Reynaldo Bermina, 30; Rodolfo Basister, 41; Franelyn Mangadap, 38; and Jonathan Junsay, 26–all from Quezon City; and Henry Tesalona, 31; and Jun Santos, 41–both from Ampid, San Mateo, Rizal province.
Police Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said last June 21, around 3:40 p.m, victims Rey Orozo Noche with his friends Catherine Borleo, Leo Gaerlan and Rainer Ocampo were on board two vehicles, when Piya and three unidentified men flagged them along Impala Street, Fairview, Quezon City.
Two of the suspects then took the keys of the victims’ Pajero (XGF 707) and Honda Jazz (BCW 388) and drove to an undisclosed place. The victims later knew that they were brought to the suspects’ safehouse inside a farm raising fighting cocks located at Block 2, Lot 6, Saint John Street, Ismael Subdivision, Ampid, San Mateo, Rizal.
Subsequently, Borleo, Gaerlan and Ocampo were released but not Noche, who was forced to sign a sale contract with a stipulated amount of P300,000 in exchange for the Pajero.
The suspects demanded from Noche’s parents an amount of P500,000 for the release of their son that was later reduced to P100,000.
On June 23, Noche’s parents reported the incident to authorities in Camp Karingal in Quezon City before the pay-out of the ransom, which was finally reduced to P50,000.
Later in the afternoon, Noche was released in front of the gate of Samaka Village in Quezon City after the suspects received the ransom that was sent through Smart Padala.
An immediate follow-up operation was conducted by the police, resulting in the arrest of suspects Magadap and Junsay in another safehouse at Don Enrique Heights, Quezon City, where the victim was first brought before he was driven to Ampid.
Police managed to arrest the nine suspects during another follow-up operation.
The Pajero was recovered on June 25, 2015 along Kagawad Street and Senatorial Road, Batasan Hills, Quezon City, while the Honda Jazz of the victims was found on June 24, along USAFE Street, Holy Spirit, Quezon City.
The arrested suspects were brought to the office of Assistant City Prosecutor Rodrigo del Rosario who recom-mended the filing charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention against them with no bail recommended.
Police said Momo was earlier implicated in a kidnapping case in Marikina City (Metro Manila) but the victim did not press charges while Piya faced fencing and two robbery cases.
