The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Dagupan City commended two high school students from Pangasinan Universal Institute after the two bagged gold and bronze medals in the 9th International Mathematics Competition held in Singapore recently.
A resolution authored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo congratulated Mark Davidson Cua, 15, junior high school student who bagged the gold medal; and Sean Christian Lim, 13, a freshman, who bagged the bronze medal.
The international competition was participated in by 11 countries which include host Singapore, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Iran, India and the Philippines.
Cua and Lim were part of the 223-member Philippine delegation who trained under the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines.
The two students were already medal winners in previous international math competitions they joined in.
Cua said he learned “to always aim to be the best because in every contest, there could be someone who would emerge better than you.”
Lim said it was his self-confidence boosted by his experiences in such competitions that made him win.
The two outstanding students will be honored and feted by the city on a later date for the inspiration and pride they brought for their fellow students. PNA
