CABANATUAN CITY: At least two women were killed while more than 20 others were hurt when a Metro Manila-bound bus fell into a deep ravine in Barangay Capintalan, Carranglan town before dawn Wednesday.
Senior Supt. Crizaldo Nieves, Nueva Ecija police director, identified the fatalities as Christy Lauyan, 37, a resident of Barangay San Antonio North, Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya and Jennifer Tayuto, 18, of Makati City. They were declared dead on arrival at the Nueva Vizcaya General Hospital in Bambang.
Another woman, Fely Pacion, 54 of Isabela province, was in critical condition at the same hospital, the police said.
The other passengers, who were taken to hospitals in Nueva Vizcaya and Nueva Ecija, suffered minor injuries.
Investigation showed that the Dalin bus liner BVF-333 , carrying 26 passengers, was negotiating Maharlika road from Tuguegarao City in Cagayan province when it accidentally fell into the 100-meter deep cliff at around 12:30 am. Wednesday.
Senior Inspector Joseph Sta. Cruz, Carranglan police chief, said the bus driver a certain Teody Marayag , is now being investigated.
Sta. Cruz said that charges of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide, physical injuries and damage to properties are being readied against the driver. PNA
