KIDAPAWAN CITY: A bus driver and a passenger were killed while a retired army personnel was injured after two identified suspects shot a traversing bus in the town of Pikit, North Cotabato on Monday afternoon.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, Cotabato provincial police spokesperson, identified the fatalities as bus driver Ticson Lapedsing of Pagagawan, Datu Montawal, Maguindanao, and Magdalena Chavez Cabaya of Midsayap, North Cotabato.

Tayong said Lapedsing died on the spot in the shooting incident, while Cabaya was dead on arrival at a hospital in Pikit.

Wounded was Mohammad Piling, a retired Philippine Army personnel of Poblacion, Pikit, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The victims were on board the Mindanao Star bus traversing Barangay Batulawan at about 3:30 p.m., bound for Cotabato City when one of the suspects, back riding in a motorcycle, shot Lapedsing.

The bus lost control and slammed on a dump truck at the opposite lane, causing minor injuries to other passengers and damaging the bus.

Recovered from the crime scene were empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol.

Tayong said investigators believe that the main target in the shooting was Lapedsing, but motives in the attack are still to be determined while the suspects are being tracked down.
