Two drug suspects were killed by anti-illegal drug operatives of the Novaliches, Quezon City police station on Saturday night. Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, the Quezon City police chief, said the suspects shot at the operatives during a buy-bust at Barangay Gulod in Novaliches. The suspects were identified as Ashley Gumander, male, and an alias “Boy.” Gumander was on the drug watchlist and had surrendered last July following the implementation of Oplan “Tokhang” or “knock and plead,” in which police visit the homes of drug suspects and urge them to turn themselves in. A police report showed that at about 8:20 p.m. on October 15, operatives conducted the buy-bust, with one of them posing as drug buyer. The suspects were said to have sensed the presence of policemen in the area. They drew their handguns and fired at operatives, who retaliated, the report said. The suspects were rushed to the Novaliches District Hospital for medical attention but were pronounced dead on arrival. Recovered from the suspects were an Armscor caliber .45 pistol, a bullet, nine fired cartridge cases, a homemade 12-gauge shotgun that was loaded, two rounds of 12-gauge shotgun bullets, a digital weighing scale, four plastic sachets of shabu, and P1,000 used in the buy-bust.
