Junior netters Alberto Lim Jr. and Eric Olivarez Jr. entered the third round of the 2013 Thamrin Cup International Junior Championships at the Kemayoran Tennis Centre in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The third-seeded Lim posted a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ahmad Maulana Bezuri of Indonesia. Olivarez shocked the No. 12 pick Yong Jie Isaac Ong of Singapore, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Lim takes on No. 13 Ho Jun Lee of Taiwan, who defeated Hao Sheng Koay of Malaysia, 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, while Olivarez will have his hands full anew against No. 6 Hei Yin Andrew Li of Hong Kong, who scored an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Taiwanese Jeffrey Hsu.
“We’re expecting a tough match since all these players are good defenders and are very consistent from the back court. We’re ready for a fight,” said coach Manny Tecson.
In doubles, Lim and Taiwanese partner Chen Han Yu clobbered the Indonesian pair of Davin Hanggodo and Timothy Jason, 6-1, 6-0. Olivarez and Seth Eh Teoh of Singapore were playing Gil de Keyser of Belgium and Taisei Miyamoto of Japan, as of press time.
In Halle, Germany, Filipino-American Treat Conrad Huey and British Dominic Inglot battle Daniele Baccialo of Italy and Jonathan Erlich of Israel in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Gerry Weber Open men’s doubles.
Baccialo and Erlich ousted James Cerretani of US and Ernests Gulbis of Latvia, 6-3, 6-2.
