Two houses built on the banks of a river in Marikina City collapsed on Thursday morning after heavy rains damaged a riprap wall on which the structures stood.
Marikina Rescue 161 said no one was hurt when the two houses in Barangay Nangka collapsed.
Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro theorized that the riprap built by the Department of Public Works and Highways may have had a weak foundation.
“They [the DPWH]should carefully look on the engineering design and the quality of their work,” he said.
“We’ve been asking the DPWH several times to investigate the structural integrity of the project,” the mayor added.
Part of the riprap also collapsed on Sunday.
