KIDAPAWAN CITY: At least two civilians sustained minor injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off in Sultan Kudarat province at 6 a.m. on Sunday in front of Our Lady of Hope Church in Barangay Poblacion in Esperanza town. Senior Supt. Raul Supiter, provincial police director, identified the victims as Loren Erazo, 26-year-old, and John Reynan Escanilan, 30. The police said the IED used in the blast was packed with nails with a distance triggering (a mobile phone) device. Authorities were investigating the blast at press time. While no individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack, it generated fear among church goers and other local residents in the area.
