The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday announced that two people were killed while three are missing in the wake of heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring.
“Two people drowned at an irrigation dam in Tanza [Cavite]. One had been recovered and the other is missing,” Cavite governor Jonvic Remulla said in a radio interview
He also said several areas of Cavite had been flooded.
The NDRRMC also recorded one vehicular accident in Apayao, six landslides in Abra, and an incident involving tourists trapped in a cave in Mountain Province.
It identified the fatality as Franco Cawayan, 30, who died in the vehicular accident at about 2 p.m. Sunday in Sitio Caliat, Barangay Lenneng in Cabugao, Apayao.
Nine others were seriously injured in the accident.
Missing are Rosalino Calantay, 30, who was crossing Damangil River in Barangay Amtuagan in Tubo, Abra; and Monching Bakidan, 20, who tried to cross Chico River at Sitio Pampang, Barangay Samoki in Bontoc, Mountain Province.
At least 559 families or 2,588 people were affected in Ilocos, Metro Manila, and Cordillera. PNA
