TWO still unidentified armed men were killed and three others were injured at dawn Monday, following an encounter between government troops and a group of six suspected lawless elements in a remote village in the central Philippine city of Cadiz, according to police reports.
The PNP National Operation Center, in Camp Crame, said that troops of the Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB) encountered the six men at around 4:30 a.m in Brgy. Bangquerohan.
The troops responded to a call for help from village officials that some unidentified individuals were firing their guns indiscriminately in the air. A firefight ensued between the troops and the gunmen.
Recovered from the encounter site a homemade .22-caliber firearm loaded with a 5.56mm ammunition. ANTHONY VARGAS
