2 killed in vehicular accidents in Luzon


San Pedro, Laguna: A security guard was killed while 46 other passengers were wounded after a bus hit a truck at the southbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway.

Laguna Provincial Director Senior Supt. Florendo Saligao said, an AB Liner Mandigma provincial bus driven by Benito Dote accidentally bumped the trailer-truck driven by Maylo Mendez from behind.

The collision resulted to the death of a passenger identified as Jonathan Weson Factorin, a security guard of Mamatid, Cabuyao in Laguna.

Saligao said more or less 46 passengers were injured and brought to different hospitals for medical treatment.

Investigation revealed that the truck had a mechanical problem and veered to the right causing the bus to hit it from behind.

In a separate incident, a small scale miner was killed while his cousin was seriously hurt when the Isuzu Elf truck they were riding fell into a 150-meter ravine in sitio Tapak, Ampucao, Itogon Sunday night.

Police identified the fata- lity as 40-year-old miner Tony Mendoza Balbino from Kiangan Village, Ampucao. The victim’s cousin, Roel Balao-in Bandos, 25, also a miner from Ampucao and the driver of the truck had multiple bodily injuries.

Itogon policemen who probed the mishap said Bandos who drove the truck with plate number WRJ 233 dozed off while enroute home from work.

Also on Sunday at around 2:40 p.m., 8-year-old Aces Cabansi Batalang from Minac, Tuding, was rushed to the hospital after she was hit by a pick-up truck along Slide, Tuding, also in Itogon.

The child was reportedly crossing the street when an Isuzu Dmax pick-up truck with plate number ZNK-811 driven by Dave Sinakey Amos, 21, hit the child. The driver brought the victim to the Baguio General Hospital.

Amos, police said, agreed to shoulder all the hospital expenses of the child.
