Two alleged minors transporting sacks of marijuana were nabbed during an interdiction operation conducted by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) with local authorities in La Union on last week.
Combined elements of PDEA Regional Office 1 (PDEA RO1) and the Santol Police Station intercepted the two minors in the act of transporting four sacks containing 26 bricks of marijuana fruiting tops and 10 bundles of dried marijuana stalks weighing a total of 52 kilograms in Sitio Tibak, Barangay Sasaba, Santol, La Union. The illegal hemp has an estimated value of P1.3 million.
The suspects’ three other companions, also carrying sacks of marijuana managed to escape but were later identified by the arrested suspects as alias “Erwin,” alias “Wilbert” and “Rafael Macana,” all residents of Barangay Badew, Lubeng, Kibungan, Benguet.
They may be charged for possession and transportation of dangerous drugs under Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
If the suspects are proven to be minors, they shall remain in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
