DAVAO CITY: Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed following clashes with government forces in Barangay Gupitan in Kapalong town, Davao del Norte on Wednesday afternoon.
Capt. Ernest Carolina, head of the public affairs office of the 10th Infantry Division, said the soldiers under the 60th Infantry Battalion recovered several firearms from the clash site.
Carolina said there were no casualty on the side of the military.
On October 26, elements of the 60th IB also clashed with NPA rebels in the area, leaving two rebels dead.
Meanwhile, the body of former NPA cadre Arnel Recta was found with gunshot wounds on Tuesday. Recta and his wife were first reported missing on October 24 in Barangay Dalagdag in Calinan District in Davao City. Recta’s wife remains missing as of this writing.
Carolina said a letter signed by the NPA was recovered from the crime scene. The letter said the execution was carried out because of Recta’s involvement in the anti-insurgency campaign of the military.
“The brutality of the NPA is seen here very clearly,” said Lt. Col. Rodney Intal, commander of the 69th Infantry Battalion Commander in a statement.
