The Team Pilipinas and the Peewees, two local men’s ice hockey teams, won one gold medal each in two separate Asian tournaments recently.
Team Pilipinas posted three goals against the Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan team in the finals of the Hongkong Amateur Hockey Club Invitational Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament that was held over the weekend in Hong Kong.
Francois Gautier, Daniel Brodan and Ryan Charland contributed one goal apiece to lead the Philippine team to victory.
The Peewees, on the other hand, swept top seeded Badax Indonesia, 3-0, in the finals of Youth U13 division of the 2015 Malaysia Invitational International Ice Hockey Tournament, which was held on September 11 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Carlo Angelo scored all three goals for the Peewees.
Unlike the seniors division, the 16-and-13-under divisions are less prone to hard physical contact based on the rules of the National Hockey League, the world governing organization of the sport.
