LEGAZPI CITY: Suspected communist insurgents launched a series of attacks in at least six towns in the island province of Masbate on Tuesday, wounding the chief of police in Batuan town and a policeman.
Police Senior Inspector Arthur Gomez, spokesman of Regional Task Force Masbate said Senior Insp. Aldrin Rosales, Batuan chief of police and one of his men, Senior Police Officer 1 Amado Abiola were wounded in a roadside bombing at about 8:50 a.m.
The police chief and his men were on their way to Barangay Lagundi in Ticao Island when the IED exploded along the provincial road of Barangay Burgos also in Batuan.
Rosales suffered head injuries from shrapnel, and along with Abiola, was rushed to Masbate provincial hospital for medical treatment.
Gomez said that the rebels first attacked the detachment of the Army’s 22nd Infantry and the 3rd CAA Coy in Sitio Anapog, Barangay Poblacion of District 2, Claveria town in Masbate at about 12: 35 a.m.
Later at about 4 a.m. two explosions took place near the residence of Police Officer 1 Benje Muana in Barangay Miaga, Uson town.
There was no reported injury or casualty in the attacks, Gomez added.
One hour after the assault in Uson town, an improvised explosive device exploded along the national highway in Barangay Tunga in Esperanza town.
Police operatives of Esperanza municipal police station immediately proceeded at Tunga village for investigation. However, at 7:15 in the morning, another explosion occurred anew along the National Highway in Purok 5, Barangay Tabuc, Mobo town more or less 200 meters away from the so-called kilometer post U-9.
