2 policemen arrested for ‘kidnapping’ tricycle driver

Two police officers are now detained at the Manila Police District (MPD) integrated jail after a tricycle driver charged them with kidnapping.

The case against PO1 Edwin Soriano, 43, married, assigned at MPD Santa Ana Police Station, and PO2 Manuel Fuentes, 33, married, assigned at the holding unit of Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City, was filed before the Manila Prosecutor’s office on Friday.

Supt. Jackson Tuliao, chief of Moriones Police Station, said the alleged victim, Sherwin Desear, 26, single, a resident of No.36 18th Avenue, Murphy, Cubao, Quezon City, claimed that on Thursday (July 2) at 9 a.m. the two policemen went to the victim’s house in Cubao and demanded that he produce shabu.

The policemen had introduced themselves to Desear as officers from Camp Karingal, the Quezon City police headquarters.

When Desear, allegedly an illegal drug pusher, could not produce shabu, the policemen forcibly dragged him into a gray Toyota Revo.

Soriano and Fuentes, using a cellular phone called a certain “Ryan,” allegedly the boss of Desear, and demanded P20,000 cash in exchange for the release of the latter.

They then went to the house of Desear’s mother along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and left there the Toyota Revo.

Sensing that “Ryan” was not responding to their demand, the suspects boarded a taxi and decided to bring Desear to Justice Jose Abad Santos General Hospital for medical examination.

They then proceeded to a house on Antonio Rivera Street in Tondo, Manila.

Desear, however, was able to escape from the two policemen. He went to the nearby barangay (village) hall and sought the help of the village chairman.

Recovered from Soriano were a Berretta 9mm pistol with PNP property markings, two magazines 30 live 9mm ammunition, one caliber 38 pistol with serial number 957090 loaded with six live ammunition, PNP ID, one cellphone, charger and one folding knife.

Recovered from Fuentes were one Stoeger Cougar 8000 pistol with PNP markings, three magazines, 45 live ammunition and PNP ID.
