ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two policemen were shot and killed in separate attacks in Zamboanga City, officials said Monday.
PO1 Hudan Insang, 35, was driving his motorcycle when a gunman shot him several times.
Insang was assigned in Isabela City in nearby Basilan province, but lived in Manicahaan village in Zamboanga City, according to Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, a regional police spokesman.
He died while being treated at the Zamboanga City Medical Center, Huesca said.
He said the victim’s wife told investigators her husband had been getting death threats from a man over an unpaid debt. Huesca said the man had been identified by the victim’s wife and an investigation is going on.
The gunman escaped on the motorcycle being driven by a companion. Their identities were not immediately known.
The other policeman, SPO1 Jaafar Jambiran, was shot by a lone gunman in a mosque in the barangay called Lower Calarian.
Jambiran was assigned in the Sinunuc police station. His attacker fled after the killing.
Over 200 people had been killed in Zamboanga City since last year and many of the murders were carried out by hired killers.
