TWO ranking leaders of the New People’s Army were arrested at a joint police-military checkpoint in a remote village in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
National police spokesman Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor Wilben Mayor on Wednesday identified the arrested rebel leaders as Ariel Arbitrario and Crispolo Arbitrario alias ‘Calvin’. The duo was apprehended in Barangay Mandaum.
Ariel is believed to be serving as the secretary of NPA Front 2 under the Southern Regional Committee while Crispolo is allegedly a member of the rebels’ special operations group.
The two are subjects of separate warrants of arrest for murder filed before the regional trial court in Nabunturan, Compostela Valley.
Mayor said Ariel allegedly masterminded rebel operations while Crispolo was reportedly involved in killings in the towns of Maco, Mabini and Pantukan.
Seized from the Arbitrarios were .45 caliber and .38 caliber pistols, two grenades and a handheld radio transceiver, Mayor said.
They are detained at the Davao del Norte Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) office while charges for illegal possession of firearms and explosives in violation of the election gun ban are being prepared.
