TWO high-profile leaders of the New People’s Army (NPA) and two other members were arrested by joint police and military operatives on Friday in a suburban village in Butuan City, Agusan Del Sur.
Caraga police spokesman, Supt. Michael Lozada identified the arrested NPA leaders as Roldan Bungolto alias ‘Itom’/‘Loloy,’ commanding Officer of the Militia ng Bayan and Team Leader of Guerilla Front Committee (GFC) 4A Sparow unit; and Danilo Acania, former deputy secretary of GFC 4A and commanding officer of Policard (NPA platoon).
The two others were Jek-jek Borja and Tata Borja alias Anatalio Pison.
They were arrested in Sitio Lamusig, Barangay Tungao in Butuan City by police and elements of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division on the basis of a warrant for murder and frustrated murder charges filed against them.
Seized from the rebels were two M16 rifles, an AK47 assault rifle, one caliber .22 sniper rifle with scope, two caliber .22 rifles, three pistols, two revolvers, improvised explosive device; two hand grenades, ammunitions and subversive documents.
There was no immediate statement from the NPA on the arrest of their men.
Meanwhile in a separate statement, Major Benjamin Madrigal Jr., Army’s 4th ID commander lauded government troops for the capture of the NPA members, as he encouraged the others to return to the fold of the law.
“For the NPA remnants, our only wish is to see our communities free of any forms of violence. We also want you to go back to your family and end this nonsense armed struggle. We ask you to give peace a chance.” Madrigal said.
