DAVAO CITY: Unidentified gunmen seized a former Education official and her grandson on Sunday in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.
Police said Isabel Muyargas and Kyle Hamad were taken by armed men from their house in Bangkeron village in Ipil town.
They were dragged by gunmen to a waiting motorized boat, with another boat carrying other gunmen tailing them as they escaped.
The men were armed with automatic rifles but it was not immediately known whether they are members of the Abu Sayyaf or other rebel groups.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the latest abductions.
Early this year, Abu Sayyaf gunmen also kidnapped Mayor Gemma Adana, of Naga town near Ipil.
Previous kidnappings in Ipil and nearby areas have also been blamed by authorities on Abral Abdusallam, a notorious kidnap gang leader in Western Mindanao.
