• 2 soldiers hurt in North Cotabato bomb blast

KIDAPAWAN CITY: Two soldiers were wounded when an improvised bomb exploded Friday morning in a barangay in Midsayap town, North Cotabato.

Military officials identified the wounded soldiers as Staff Sergeants Rudolfo Ubugan and Remond Sapun, both from Charlie Company of the Army’s 40th Infantry Battalion.

The two were fetching water from a spring some 200 meters from their base in Barangay Nabalawag, when an improvised explosive device went off.

Investigators said the rigged 60-mm mortar shell was set off using a cellular phone.

The military blamed the explosion to the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

The two soldiers were taken to Camp Siongco hospital in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

At around 2 a.m.  the same day, a grenade exploded near the house of Anwar Lucas, barangay captain of Rosary Heights 10 in Cotabato City.

No one was reported hurt, but the explosion shattered glass windows and damaged two multi-cabs parked nearby. MOH I. SAADUDDIN
