Two Army Rangers were killed and three others were wounded after government troops clashed with a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels early Saturday in Magpet, North Cotabato, reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said.
The encounter, which was still raging as of Saturday afternoon, started at around 10 a.m. at Barangay Amabel in Magpet.
The reports said a patrol from the 12th Scout Ranger Company chanced upon the NPA rebels, triggering a fierce firefight.
The encounter took place several days ahead of the NPA’s 45th anniversary on March 29.
The names of slain and wounded soldiers were withheld pending notification of kin.
