TWO army soldiers were killed and two others were wounded following a clash between government troops and New People’s Army (NPA) rebels on Saturday morning in a remote village in Negros Occidental in central Philippines.
In a report, 2nd Lieutenant Ma. Revekka Knothess Roperos, information officer of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, said the took place at around 6:45 a.m. at Sitio Carbon, in Toboso town’s Brgy. San Isidro.
The Army official said that troops from the Alpha Company of the 62nd Infantry Battalion were conducting combat patrol operation in the said area when they encountered at least 10 communist insurgents, triggering a firefight.
Roperos said there had been reports about the presence of armed men, who were extorting cash from the residents, in the area, prompting the military to conduct the said operation.
