ZAMBOANGA CITY: Communist rebels killed two government soldiers and wounded another in an attack in Esperanza town in Agusan del Sur province, a spokesman for the New People’s Army said on Thursday. Omar Guevara said rebel forces killed the soldiers who were members of the 26th Infantry Battalion in this week’s fighting that erupted in Maliwanag village. He said the soldiers were resting in a thatched hut when the rebels attacked them. One soldier was also wounded in the clash, he said. “This action happened while this platoon was resting in a hut. This was their unit undergoing a hot pursuit operation after the NPA successfully raided the compound of Shannalyne Plantation Company and a rubber plantation,” Guevara said.
