The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday recorded 28 stray-bullet incidents during the holiday season in which a three-month-old boy was killed.
The number is lower than last year’s, the PNP said.
Of the 28 incidents that were recorded by the police since December 16, 15 occurred on New Year’s Day.
The lone fatality was Von Alexander Llagas, who was hit by a bullet while sleeping at home in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, on New Year’s Day.
The rest, who were all injured, were Junel de Chavez of Bacoor, Cavite; Ruel Alday of Candelaria, Quezon; Chito Corpuz of Tumauini, Isabela; Mury Calderon of Navotas City; Alex Apuang of Quezon City; Rosa Mia Deruta of Paranaque City. Roxas in Capiz; Johnny Fadrogane of Dao, Capiz; Carmen Samson of Batangas and Jahred Stephan Bitacora of Digos City.
The PNP said the 28 stray-bullet incidents were much lower than the 40 recorded for the same period in 2012.
In 2012, there were two fatalities, the PNP said.
The PNP said 21 persons were arrested for selling and using illegal firecrackers and fireworks, 15 for the illegal firing of guns and one as a suspect in a stray-bullet incident.
