Now on its fourth year, the Philippines’ Yahoo! Celebrity Awards has officially released a list of 140 nominees to compete in the search engine’s celebrity online polls.

A total of 28 titles are up for grabs among famous names and newsmakers that caught the attention of netizens in 2013.

With a new tagline, “Powered by You,” this annual competition promises to be bigger and more exciting in terms of coverage.

To start with, the Internet portal company decided to change the name of the competition from “Yahoo! Philippines OMG! Awards,” to “Yahoo! Celebrity Awards” due to the fact that the most-searched celebrities do not only come from show business, but also media, music, and even sports.

At the award’s official launch on June 4 at Amber Ultra Lounge in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, the website already began taking in votes from fans all over the world for its 18 original categories, as well as a list of 10 new additional titles. The latter is comprised of Celebrity Couple, Celebrity Family, Male and Female Hothletes, Band of the Year, Male and Female ‘Kontrabida’, Emerging Band, Song of the Year and Social Media Star.

“Yahoo! Celebrity Awards honors not only the Pinoy stars but also the fans who propel them to stardom. We put the fans front and center because they fuel the engine of the entertainment industry. In the last three years, Celebrity Awards has earned an overwhelming response from the public, a testament to how much we Filipinos love our celebrities,” said Kate Delos Reyes, country manager and editor of Yahoo! Philippines.

Present at the launch was Celebrity Media Magnet winner and Celebrity of the Year Marian Rivera. Looking as radiant as ever, Marian thanked her fans for supporting her every endeavor, be it on TV or the movies.

Described by Yahoo! as “most appealing and charismatic,” the GMA star is also nominated in four categories this year, including Celebrity of the Year, Celebrity Couple of the Year (with long-time boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes), Actress of the Year, while her show, Carmela is also among the list of Teleserye of the Year nominees.

Besides changes in name and categories, the “By Request” option in the Celebrity Awards site of Yahoo! will now allow voters to make requests on programs and celebrities they want to be featured during the awards night.

Yahoo! further launched an “On-the Road” bus that began touring different universities on June 9 to enjoin the youth to participate in the voting. Students will find different electronic devices aboard the bus where they can cast their votes, with the bonus of a makeshift stage atop the vehicle where nominees from the Band of the Year and Emerging Band categories are scheduled to perform.

The bus will carry on its rounds until July 12.

In the past year, online voting for the Yahoo! Awards exceeded 9 million, and is expected to grow this year with the added categories, and upcoming talents included in the nominees.
