2,300 SACKS OF SMUGGLED RICE SEIZED IN ZAMBOANGA

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in the Western Mindanao region confiscated some 2,300 sacks of smuggled rice during a raid in a private port in Zamboanga City on Monday. Belated reports reaching the PCG headquarters in Manila said the Coast Guard Station- Zamboanga received information that fishing vessel Fatimah Nuralyn left the port in Jolo, Sulu for Zamboanga City without a clearance, which is a maritime violation, and that it was suspected to be loaded with the smuggled rice. The PCG Safety Inspection and Enforcement Team with its K9 units conducted a search on the docked vessel and discovered the 2,300 sacks of rice worth more than P2.3 million.
