Defense and Sporting Arms Show (DSAS), he most prestigious and longest running gun show in the country will showcase its 23rd edition from November 11 to 15 at SM Megamall, Megatrade Hall in Mandaluyong City.
Organized by the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD), this year’s DSAS is titled “My Family, My Choice. Protection of my family is my duty.”
“It’s for protection. Kasi base sa experience namin wala masyadong nagbi-bitbit ng baril outside of their residences. It’s more of a personal protection in their house. Ang bahay is the most safe [place]for you and your family [It’s for protection. Based on our experience, there are few who carry their guns outside of their residences. It’s more of a personal protection inside the house – the safest place for them and their family)”, AFAD Vice President Dino Rodriguez told The Manila Times in a phone interview.
Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition guarantees the right of a law-abiding citizen to protect his or her family with a firearm.
RA 10591 declares, "The State also recognizes the right of its qualified citizens to self-defense through, when it is the reasonable means to repel the unlawful aggression under the circumstances, the use of firearms.”
According to AFAD, the number of gun buyers doubled this year compared to 2014.
"Definitely, tumaas ang bilang ng bumili. Based on the feedback, malaki tinalon ng sales nila halos 100 percent [The number of gun owners definitely increased. Based on the feedback, there is a big leap in the sales almost up to 100 percent],” said Rodriguez.
Joining this year’s DSAS are 50 gun manufacturers and dealers offering modern firearms and related accessories.
The Philippine National Police, through the Civil Security Group and the Firearms and Explosives Office, has been the traditional partner of the AFAD in organizing the past editions of DSAS.
